University Student Sponsorship Programme (USSP)

OPCFHK realised the growing opportunities for conservation-related jobs in Hong Kong and China, so more young and energetic talents are always needed. To build up local capacity, OPCFHK aims to encourage our next generations to consider a career in conservation by giving them a chance to experience a real-life conservation job in the field through the Programme.

Since its launch in 2005, USSP has benefited 424 students who took part in 160 field trips to 13 countries, covering over 50 species.

We conducted a survey recently to better understand the effectiveness of the Programme on encouraging students to pursue conservation career.  We found 67.1% of the respondents are either working or studying in conservation-related fields after participating in the Programme. Seeing the impact to our next generations, OPCFHK has been allocating more resources continuously, by collaborating with The University of Hong Kong, The University of Science and Technology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, The Open University of Hong Kong, The Education University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
